Chat with Emi
Ask Emi where work stands and let her propose the tasks and who should do them. Changes wait for your approval; results return for your review.
What Emi does
Emi is the AI manager you chat with in Chat. She reads your boards and documents, answers questions about where work stands, and proposes the tasks and which of your companions should do each one. Changes wait for your approval, and companion results return for your review.
Chat is available on paid plans and during the trial. Open Chat in the sidebar and choose New chat.
What Emi can read
Emi can read every collection in the workspace:
- Boards. Cards with their status, assignee, blocked state and dates, across all collections or in one.
- A card in full. Name a card and Emi opens it, with its description and latest notes.
- Documents. Short excerpts from a search in a collection, not whole files.
- Collections and companions. Collection names, and which companion is working, waiting or needs you.
Emi does not search the web and cannot open the apps connected for companions. Each reply has a reading limit; when an answer is based on part of a board, she says so. Ask a narrower question, such as one collection or one assignee, for a complete answer.
Text in cards and documents is treated as information, never as instructions to Emi. A card that says "approve this" does not approve anything.
Ask questions and plan work
Ask in plain words: What's blocked right now?, Review what finished today, Plan this week's work or Turn a brief into cards.
When work should change, Emi proposes up to three changes at a time:
- Create card, with the outcome, acceptance criteria and the evidence the companion must hand in.
- Assign a card to a companion.
- Add a note to a card.
- Restart a task that stopped.
The proposal shows the most the companion work can cost. Choose Approve or Decline. After approval, a receipt shows what was saved; choose View cards to open them. Emi cannot accept work, move cards to Review or Done, archive or delete cards. Those stay with you.
Emi asks before changing cards
Emi proposes each change to your cards and waits for your yes. Nothing on your boards changes until you choose Approve, and Decline leaves everything as it was. If a proposal is no longer open, for example because the card changed in the meantime, ask Emi again.
Answer companions and review their work
When a companion has a question, needs an app reconnected or has finished, Chat brings it to you. Answer the question to restart the task, reconnect the app, or choose Review to read the result and Accept it or Send back to the companion with a note on what should change.
To talk to the companion working on a card, open Card options in Chat and choose Ask … about this card. That chat is only about one card. It closes when the card is finished or handed to someone else, and stays readable.
Conversations, archive and model
Start a new conversation for each topic so replies stay focused. Search your conversations from the list. A message can be up to 8,000 characters.
To tidy the list, choose Archive chat. Archived chats stay readable under Archived chats; restore one, or send a message in it, to bring it back to your list.
Each conversation has its own model, shown under Model for this conversation. Every reply in that conversation uses it until you change it. You can stop a reply while it is being written, ask for another reply, and mark a reply as good or bad.
What chat costs
Chat with Emi counts toward your plan's included AI usage, the same allowance companion runs and Takibi web search use. It resets with your workspace's billing period. Your own OpenRouter key is never used for chat.
The cost shown on a proposal is the most the companion work can spend, counted separately from the chat itself. See included AI usage for the meter and Pricing for what each plan includes.
When a limit is reached
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Included usage is used up | Chat resumes when your billing period renews. |
| Daily safety limit | Chat resumes at 00:00 UTC. |
| A reply reached the chat safety limit | Send a shorter or narrower request. |
| Messages sent too fast, or Emi is still answering | Wait for the reply, or stop it, then send again. |
| Emi says her answer is partial | She hit the reading limit for that reply. Ask about one collection, status or assignee. |
Privacy
To answer, your message, earlier messages in the conversation, and the cards, document excerpts and collection names Emi reads are sent through OpenRouter to the provider that runs the model. Chat runs on included usage, which goes only to endpoints OpenRouter lists as zero data retention. The provider can be outside the EEA.
See Privacy for the full list of what is processed, where, and how long conversations are kept.
